What Does High TSH Mean?
A high TSH blood level means your pituitary gland is producing extra thyroid-stimulating hormone because it senses that your thyroid hormone levels (T3/T4) are too low. High TSH is the primary laboratory marker for hypothyroidism — an underactive thyroid.
Common Causes of High TSH
