What Is a Chlamydia Test?
Chlamydia testing uses a NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test) to detect chlamydia DNA.
Testing Methods
- Urine test: most common — just pee in a cup
- Vaginal swab: self-collected or provider-collected
- Rectal/pharyngeal swab: if those sites were exposed
What It Does NOT Require
- No blood draw needed
- No fasting
- No physical exam
Results and Treatment
- Results in 1–3 days
- Positive = azithromycin (single dose) or doxycycline (7 days)
- Partner(s) must be treated
- Re-test in 3 months
