What Is a Chlamydia Test?

Chlamydia testing uses a NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test) to detect chlamydia DNA.

Testing Methods

  • Urine test: most common — just pee in a cup
  • Vaginal swab: self-collected or provider-collected
  • Rectal/pharyngeal swab: if those sites were exposed

What It Does NOT Require

  • No blood draw needed
  • No fasting
  • No physical exam

Results and Treatment

  • Results in 1–3 days
  • Positive = azithromycin (single dose) or doxycycline (7 days)
  • Partner(s) must be treated
  • Re-test in 3 months
