What Is Non-HDL Cholesterol?
Non-HDL cholesterol is calculated by subtracting HDL from total cholesterol. It captures ALL bad cholesterol types.
How to Calculate
- Non-HDL = Total cholesterol − HDL
- Example: Total 200 − HDL 50 = Non-HDL 150
Goals
- Below 130 mg/dL for most people
- Below 100 mg/dL for high-risk patients
Why It Matters
- Includes LDL + VLDL + IDL (all atherogenic)
- Doesn't require fasting
- Better predictor than LDL alone in some studies
